Indirect Impact Of Shark Finning To Coral Reefs: Sustainability Report Published

Ever Wonder Adventure, an organization promoting sustainable tourism and environmental guardianship initiatives, has released a report calling for an end to the barbaric practice of shark finning.

Ever Wonder Adventure’s new report highlights the important role that sharks play in marine ecosystems. As part of the report, they also encourage readers to support anti-shark finning initiatives and urge governments and other regulatory bodies to adopt stricter laws regarding the practice.

A recent IPSOS survey found that 51% of Americans are afraid of sharks. When asked what led to them having this fear, the overwhelming majority of respondents cited seeing or hearing news stories, movies, and myths that portrayed sharks as “man-eaters” and “territorial predators.”

“Sharks have been unjustly vilified in the media, perpetuating baseless fears in the public's mind that poachers have used as justification for continuing the practice of shark finning,” explained a spokesperson for Ever Wonder Adventure. “However, contrary to these exaggerated portrayals, sharks rarely attack humans, and their significance in marine ecosystems is unparalleled.”

According to Ever Wonder Adventure, the main reason sharks need to be protected is the key role they play in the food chain. By feeding on other marine life they help keep populations in check, which in turn prevents imbalances from occurring that would cause serious damage and disruption to the ecosystem.

The report also notes the influence sharks have on maintaining the health of coral reefs. If herbivorous creatures were allowed to feed on the reefs unchecked, the reefs would die out, causing a destabilizing series of events that could lead to the complete destruction of the ecosystem. Again, sharks help prevent this from happening.

To help put an end to shark finning, Ever Wonder Adventure implores readers to support shark preservation and conservation efforts and boycott any businesses selling shark fins and other shark-derived products.

“We must revolt against the gastronomic marvelization of the barbaric and unsustainable shark finning industry,” said the spokesperson. “Let us collectively make a stand against the ignorant and cruel consumption of shark fins. It’s our responsibility to protect these magnificent creatures and preserve the balance of marine ecosystems for the sake of our planet.”
