LOS ANGELES, CA - Clinical psychologist Dr. Bonnie Zucker announces the release of Freedom From Panic: Evidence-Based Techniques to End Avoidance and Stop Panic Before It Stops You, a practical new guide designed to help readers understand, manage, and overcome panic attacks and panic disorder.
Over 9 million Americans suffer from panic disorder, and millions more deal with debilitating phobias. Cognitive behavioral therapy for panic is one of the most effective treatments for panic disorder, but access to it remains elusive for many people. In addition, panic disorder remains one of the most expensive psychiatric disorders seen in emergency departments because sufferers have repeated visits, thinking they are having a cardiac or other medical crisis.
In order to help address these issues, Dr. Zucker draws on over two decades of her clinical and research experience in anxiety disorders to provide readers with science-backed tools to interrupt the cycle of panic attacks and related avoidance and distress. The book combines evidence-based cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) strategies with relatable examples, actionable exercises, and compassionate guidance.
“Panic attacks can feel terrifying and isolating, but they are highly treatable,” said Dr. Zucker. “My goal with this book is to help people break the cycle of panic and fear, so that they can live less stressful and more rewarding lives.”
Unlike many anxiety resources that focus solely on symptom reduction, Freedom From Panic helps educate readers to understand why they started having panic attacks in the first place, and what they might be inadvertently doing to make them worse. The book focuses on lasting recovery through exposure-based strategies, behavioral change, and reducing avoidance.
Readers will learn how to:
-
Understand why people panic and why people experience phobias
-
What makes them susceptible to having panic attacks
-
Identify how their thoughts and behaviors feed into their panic attacks
-
Change their catastrophic thinking patterns
-
Reduce safety and avoidance behaviors
-
Face their feared sensations and situations gradually and effectively
-
Prevent panic from interfering with work, travel, parenting, relationships, and daily life
Mental health professionals, family members, and individuals struggling with panic symptoms may find the book especially valuable as an accessible, evidence-based resource.
Freedom From Panic is available through major booksellers, including Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and independent bookstores.
