Massapequa Business Center Discusses FedEx Announcement for Carbon Neutral Operations by 2040

Fedex authorized ship center in Massapequa, NY

Massapequa, NY — Allied Pack N Ship is a FedEx-authorized ship center in Massapequa, NY and is proud to partner with an organization that has committed to reducing its carbon footprint by changing the way it does business. FedEx recently announced that they plan to have an entirely electric fleet within the next 20 years.

FedEx believes in doing its part to save the environment by lowering carbon emissions, as they have over 200,000 vehicles on the road. They were ahead of their time when it came to discovering new energy sources and introducing their first electric automobile in the early 1990s (which operated off a lead-acid battery). In 2003, they became the first delivery company to employ hybrid vehicles.

“Technology is advancing and manufacturing is scaling, which is helping us work toward an all-electric parcel pickup and delivery fleet by 2040—one of the steps on our journey to carbon neutral operations. Electric vehicles, e-cargo bikes, autonomous vehicles, and electric pallets can help us improve how we deliver,” states FedEx in a recent article published on their website. “The transportation sector has a long way to go in integrating electric vehicles into our commercial fleets. But the market is now meeting the moment to enable us to better scale an electrification strategy for the FedEx global pickup and delivery fleet.”

The next step in FedEx's plan to be carbon-neutral is set for 2025. By then, they want half of their vehicle purchases to be electric. They aim to have 100 percent of purchases be for electric vehicles only within 15 years, with every FedEx pickup and delivery vehicle converted to embrace a fully electric operation by 2040.

FedEx is currently working with energy providers, regulatory authorities and government officials to ensure that charging infrastructure is in place as they go electric. They are also collaborating with electricity suppliers to create more sustainable power grids that will enable their electric vehicle fleet to be charged on a large scale.
