-- On May 28, 2026, As AlteX celebrates its 10-year anniversary, the company announced the evolution of AlteX Academy into AlteX droneHUB, reflecting the organization’s expansion from drone education into a broader ecosystem for training, research, industry collaboration, and community development.
Originally launched in 2016 through one of Canada’s earliest drone training programs in partnership with Humber College, AlteX began with a focus on aerial cinematography and filmmaker training. Over the past decade, the organization has expanded alongside the rapid adoption of drone technology across industries including construction, infrastructure, environmental services, and public safety.
“AlteX Academy started with a vision to train the next generation of filmmakers using flying cameras,” said Yifei Zhao, Operations Director. “What surprised us was how quickly drones expanded beyond film. We began working with organizations across many sectors and realized training was only the beginning. AlteX droneHUB reflects what we have grown into: a place where training, facilities, technology, expertise, and community come together to support practical drone solutions.”
The rebrand to AlteX droneHUB reflects the organization’s continued investment in:

- and applied drone solutions.
Since 2018, AlteX has continued developing its dedicated drone training site in King City, Ontario. What began with temporary structures has evolved into a purpose-built facility featuring geodesic domes, dedicated flight stations, structured training environments, and a member-based clubhouse designed to support long-term pilot development.
In 2025, AlteX welcomed Drone Vector, a member-based organization focused on supporting drone pilots through networking, collaboration, and community engagement. Through regular flight practice, industry events, workshops, and peer support, the partnership further strengthens AlteX droneHUB’s mission to foster a connected drone ecosystem.
“Drone technology continues to evolve rapidly,” said Yifei Zhao. “We believe the future belongs to organizations and communities that bring together learning, collaboration, and innovation. AlteX droneHUB represents the next chapter of that vision.”
