MSK Doctors (0330 001 0048) has announced that it will be offering arthrosamid knee injections for knee osteoarthritis. UK citizens can book a consultation at any of the practice’s private clinics in London.

-- With arthrosamid having been approved for the European market, MSK Doctors is now offering the treatment at affiliated private clinics in London. Knee osteoarthritis patients who want to prolong surgery and receive a minimally invasive treatment with shorter recovery times can book an appointment with the practice to discuss the details of the procedure; no NHS or doctor’s referral is required.

One in five individuals over the age of 45 is affected by knee osteoarthritis in England, according to MSK Doctors. Despite the condition being one of the leading causes of disability and injury worldwide, most treatments only revolve around symptom management and are unable to delay the progression of the disease. However, MSK Doctors says that the introduction of arthrosamid injections has provided patients with an alternative to knee surgery should traditional therapies fail.
Arthrosamid is an injection that is emerging as a novel symptomatic treatment for knee osteoarthritis. During the procedure, a hydrogel is injected into the knee, where it attaches to the joint cavity to provide extra lubrication and cushioning for the joint. This, in turn, reduces synovial pain and inflammation, which are believed to accelerate cartilage deterioration; by addressing these factors, arthrosamid can effectively delay the need for knee surgery.
Additionally, arthrosamid differs from viscosupplement injections in that the injectable is synthetic and non-degradable, meaning it will not be absorbed into the body. This results in longer-lasting pain relief, with many clinical trials showing that the treatment is effective in improving osteoarthritis symptoms for at least two years without any long-term side effects.
At MSK Doctors, arthrosamid is administered using a protocol developed by Professor Paul Lee, a leading orthopaedic surgeon in Harley Street. First, an intravenous antibiotic is given to the patient, and the knee is cleaned with antiseptics twice. The patient’s joint is then assessed with ultrasound before the arthrosamid is injected with specialist needles under local anaesthetics.
The entire procedure will take approximately 45 minutes, and the patient will be able to walk immediately. However, they will be advised to avoid strenuous activities for the first few days after the injection; the practice’s staff will instead follow up with the individual and provide guidance on the appropriate rehabilitative exercises.
