New platform connects travelers and skilled individuals with hostels seeking flexible, service-based support
KELOWNA, BC / ACCESS Newswire / March 30, 2026 / HostelHack has launched following an unconventional origin, with the platform emerging from a real-world experience in which its founder secured accommodation through a direct exchange of services.

Less than ten days prior to the platform's creation, founder Jaryd Thomas Gilles Paquette was without stable housing while recovering from a period that included financial hardship and personal challenges. In response, he began reaching out to hostels with a proposal to exchange technical work for accommodation.
He contacted multiple hostels offering to develop and implement an AI-powered booking agent designed to assist with capturing reservations outside of regular operating hours.
Most inquiries did not receive responses. One hostel agreed.
That engagement resulted in a 10-night stay in exchange for the development of a working system. The experience highlighted an opportunity to formalize a structured way for individuals with practical skills to connect with hostels in need of support.
Following this, Paquette developed HostelHack as a platform intended to connect travelers, developers, marketers, and other contributors with hostels open to exchanging accommodation for services.
HostelHack enables users to offer contributions such as technical development, marketing support, content creation, and other services in exchange for lodging. The platform is designed to facilitate direct, service-based arrangements between participants.
Unlike longer-term volunteer-focused platforms such as Workaway and Worldpackers, HostelHack emphasizes shorter-term exchanges and includes support for digital and technical skill sets, including AI-related workflows.
The platform was developed after the initial concept had been validated through direct use. Paquette's own experience securing accommodation through a skills exchange served as the foundation for the platform's structure.
HostelHack is currently live, with early users beginning to engage with the system. Initial efforts are focused on onboarding both hostels and contributors to expand the network and evaluate broader adoption.
Paquette plans to continue using the platform as part of his own travel, including upcoming plans to relocate to Kelowna on April 5th, while applying the same exchange model in new locations.
HostelHack introduces a structured approach to skill-based exchange within the travel and hospitality space, aligning with the growing presence of remote work and digital skill-based services.
