On behalf of AustralianSuper, George Stamas, AM, Director of GJK Facility Services, extended sincere appreciation for the collective effort of the Facilities Management Industry and each individual present at the event. He emphasized that investing in real assets has been a cornerstone for AustralianSuper, benefiting its 3.4 million members, bolstering the Australian economy, and contributing capital for the development and maintenance of assets. Over the last year, AustralianSuper welcomed over 445,000 new members.

As of June 2024, AustralianSuper has over $341 billion in assets under management for its more than 3.4 million members. AustralianSuper is Australia's largest super fund and is considered one of the top 20 largest pension funds in the world.

George Stamas, AM, Director of GJK Facility Services, underscored AustralianSuper's long-term commitment to real assets, stating that the growth in the value of property assets not only benefits the community but also serves the interests of property managers and investors. Over the previous 12 months to 30th June, 2024, AustralianSuper delivered a return of 8.46% in the balanced investment option.

Looking ahead to FY25, AustralianSuper's investment focus includes strengthening its teams in International Equities and Cash Portfolio Management to manage more assets internally, building out its private equity team to manage investment resources more effectively and achieve higher returns, and continuing to grow its internal mid-risk teams in New York and London to support international investments.

Sustainability remains a top priority for AustralianSuper, as it enhances efficiency and aligns with regulatory, community, and member expectations. Stamas also highlighted AustralianSuper's proud collaboration with the FMA in supporting events and activities that bring value to all members present at the gala.

AustralianSuper is privileged to collaborate with FMA CEO Nic Burt and other Employer Groups and Unions on the Vulnerable Members Advisory Council. This initiative aims to identify, develop, and inform AustralianSuper management on initiatives and considerations for vulnerable members, ensuring better member outcomes. The Advisory Council focuses on providing feedback and guidance on the Fund's approach to unpaid superannuation and facilitating education and engagement opportunities for AustralianSuper in relevant industries or cohorts.

In its commitment to removing barriers of financial inclusion facing some Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members, AustralianSuper offers a range of support, including a dedicated phone line for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander members who can speak to a specialist colleague with cultural training, an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander interpreter service, and a six-part radio series called "Australian Super Made Easy," available in English and Western Arrernte.

Additionally, over the previous 12 months, AustralianSuper has insourced its management of death claims through a new dedicated Bereavement Centre, ensuring that members' beneficiaries receive the support, empathy, and compassion they expect and deserve during difficult times.

Stamas concluded by encouraging FMA members to reach out to him, Nic Burt, and the team if they wish to provide feedback on how AustralianSuper can make a positive impact on their vulnerable employees and clients.

The partnership between AustralianSuper and the FMA underscores a shared commitment to enhancing the value of real assets, promoting sustainability, and supporting vulnerable members, ultimately contributing to the well-being of the Australian community.
