Digital eye care solution specialist pixelRo Co., Ltd. (CEO Kang Seok Myoung) is introducing a new paradigm in eye health management with its AI-based eye care kiosk, NeNoon. As usage of electronic devices such as smartphones and TVs increases, more people are experiencing eye health deterioration. In response, pixelRo has developed a solution that allows anyone to conveniently check their eye health, drawing significant attention in the industry.

Modern individuals strain their eyes through prolonged use of electronic devices. With the advancement of display technology into 8K, AR, and VR, the age at which presbyopia and vision decline occur is decreasing. pixelRo has been researching various digital convergence technologies to address this issue, including readability enhancement and presbyopia correction solutions.

Founded in October 2017 as a spin-off from Samsung Electronics, pixelRo has developed functional display solutions based on optical technology and AI algorithms. The company has positioned itself as a leader in digital eye care and healing care, with achievements such as filing a world-first patent for Vision Correction Solution and domestic mass production.

The 'NeNoon' kiosk, developed by pixelRo, is an AI-powered solution that quickly and accurately measures users' eye health status. This kiosk employs an eye age measurement algorithm to calculate the real-time distance between the user's eyes and the device, generating an average value. It also applies a vision chart conversion algorithm that adjusts the size of the vision chart automatically based on the distance between the user and the device, improving the accuracy of vision tests. Furthermore, eye-tracking technology tracks pupil position for macular degeneration testing. AI facial recognition and text recognition models analyze the position of the eyes, nose, and mouth to differentiate between the left and right eyes, providing more precise test results.

The 'NeNoon' kiosk performs near-vision tests, eye age tests, presbyopia adjustment tests, and macular degeneration tests. It can also assess contrast sensitivity, light scatter, and vision deterioration. Additionally, it allows users to store and review their test records for regular eye health management.

The 'NeNoon' kiosk has garnered significant interest from public institutions, schools, and hospitals. A senior citizen center evaluation in Seongnam earned a high usability score of 92. The kiosk is undergoing pilot projects in collaboration with Daegu Technopark, the Korean Senior Citizens Association, and obstetrics and gynecology clinics. Following its medical device certification, it is expected to see expanded adoption.

It is also gaining traction in overseas markets. Developing countries with limited medical accessibility and Middle Eastern regions, where strong sunlight accelerates vision deterioration, have shown active interest, paving the way for potential global expansion.

In addition to the 'NeNoon' kiosk, pixelRo is developing an eye care solution using a smartphone application. In 2023, the company conducted clinical trials with Korea University Ansan Hospital to create a technology that enables easy self-assessment of vision and macular degeneration, similar to self-measured blood pressure monitoring.

Furthermore, pixelRo has installed AI eye health self-diagnosis kiosks in 21 digital competency centers across South Korea and supplied five units to Hanwha Life customer centers. These kiosks allow visitors to check their eye health while waiting for consultations.

CEO Kang Seok Myoung stated, "The 'NeNoon' kiosk is the most advanced digital eye care solution, allowing users to monitor their eye health and detect potential diseases early. It is expected to see high demand in nursing homes, schools, banks, and government offices where hospital visits may be difficult."

Moving forward, pixelRo plans to continue its research and development efforts, establish itself as a leader in the digital healthcare industry, and strive to become a company that safeguards people's eye health worldwide.
