Kenya Vision Care Charity: Rural Outreach Program Helps 380 With Eye Treatment

Halo Vision's recent outreach in Thinyaine, Kenya, delivered eye care to 380 residents, diagnosing 29 serious conditions and distributing 120 reading glasses.

-- The faith-based organization serving rural Kenya successfully concluded an eye care camp on August 1, 2025, in Thinyaine village, Tigania West. The initiative reached 380 residents with essential vision services, marking a significant step in addressing unmet healthcare needs in the region.

Halo Vision's medical camp was organized in response to the persistent shortage of specialized ophthalmic care in Tigania West, where more than 135,000 residents have limited access to vision treatment. Kenya's National Eye Health Strategic Plan estimates that 15.5 percent of the population requires eye care to prevent avoidable blindness, with cataracts and refractive errors among the leading causes.

Their mobile team provided comprehensive eye screenings to the highland community, identifying 20 cases of cataracts and nine patients with glaucoma. These individuals were referred to partner hospitals for surgical intervention. In addition, 120 pairs of reading glasses were distributed to villagers experiencing impaired vision.

"This medical camp demonstrates how faith-driven compassion can restore sight and hope to those who need it most," a representative said. "Through God's grace and donor support, we transform lives with practical eye care that makes a lasting difference in rural Kenya."

The program also highlighted the importance of local partnerships in advancing public health. By collaborating with regional health institutions, Halo Vision can extend services into underserved areas while supporting Kenya's long-term vision care goals.

Donor contributions continue to sustain these outreach efforts. A $10 donation covers a basic examination, $50 provides prescription eyeglasses, and $200 funds a cataract surgery. Smaller contributions of $5 also support supplies for community health camps and expand access to the government's Social Health Scheme for vulnerable patients.
