“Dreamcatching” Launches Powerful Mental Health Awareness Campaign Through Storytelling and Philanthropy

By: Get News

New York, NY - “Dreamcatching” celebrates mental health awareness month by combining professional ambition with purposeful giving. Initially launched with a product-based model, “Dreamcatching” features four individuals living with mental health diagnoses—known as “dreamers”—who were selected to receive financial support for their inspiring professional ambitions.

Each “dreamer” designed a representative product, or “dreamcatcher,” to fund their ventures. For example, if a participant wanted to provide ongoing computer classes to under-resourced schools, their “dreamcatcher” could be a USB drive or web camera. Working in cohesion with the initiative’s philanthropic mission, every participant pledged to donate 25% of their net proceeds to a mental health nonprofit of their choice. Each nonprofit partnered with each “dreamer” is nationally renowned for its proven track-record of supporting the mental health community through education, advocacy and/or research. These organizations include McClean Hospital, CHADD, Mental Health America and Autism Empowerment.

Due to escalating tariffs and trade instability with China, the product-driven model became unsustainable because all of the “dreamcatchers” had Chinese suppliers. In response, “Dreamcatching” has evolved into a platform “powered by people instead of products.”

Now, each “dreamer’s” story is brought to life through immersive multimedia videos that showcase their goals, challenges, and the communities they hope to uplift. Background information regarding the recipient of their donation is also provided. Supporters can donate directly to each dreamer’s cause, fueling both personal growth and broader mental health advocacy.

MEET THE DREAMERS:

Willa is diagnosed with recurrent depression. She envisions a sustainable fashion movement, offering creative workshops that teach people how to up-cycle and repurpose their clothing using beginner and intermediate-level design strategies.

Tye is diagnosed with a mood disorder. His mission is to relaunch food drives through his non-profit, “Make It Out.” Specifically, he would like to service Atlanta’s five most under-resourced, high-crime and dilapidated neighborhoods—an effort that lost financial momentum during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jiya is diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome. She wants to create her inaugural sportswear outfit to launch her athleticwear company, “Blue Frog.” She has developed the engineering for the performance fabric with the help of a textile production consultant and has mock-ups and AI renderings completed.

Omari is diagnosed with severely disabling ADD/ADHD. He is a college student who has repeatedly had to pause his education due to the high cost of psychotropic medication and insurance gaps, hopes to finish school and participate in a formal volunteer program to support mental health sufferers in Africa. He will draw from his own experiences in behavioral health settings.

By supporting these “dreamers,” the public becomes a vital part of their journeys—”catching” dreams, amplifying voices, and advancing the conversation around mental health. This project was overseen by volunteer consultants that would like to remain anonymous. They include a Chief Marketing Officer, behavioral health director, order fulfillment manager and corporate branding specialist.

This is more than a fundraiser—it’s a movement to show what’s possible when we empower people with mental health conditions to lead, create, and give back.
