“Even when employers have a major medical plan, it can be difficult for employees to meet their deductible, copay or coinsurance requirements. We are excited to introduce several unique optional benefits to our group accident coverage that really focus on covering traditionally underserved consumers and groups with specific coverage needs — parents, caregivers, first responders and healthcare workers,” said Todd Dzen, vice president, Product Management & Voluntary Practice Lead. “We are also pleased to introduce an enhanced version of our standard policy including expanded coverage, additional benefits and higher benefit amounts. We believe these new offerings will help a broader group of consumers manage the unexpected expenses they may face after an accidental injury.”

Optional benefits to support families

  • Family care benefit provides weekly benefits for parents who need to arrange new child care or pet care services after an accident, up to a maximum amount.
  • Parental caregiver benefit allows insureds to extend their core accident coverage to parents, in-laws or grandparents who reside with them full-time.

Optional benefits for first responders and health care workers

  • First responder benefit rider provides additional benefits for work-related injuries such as gun-shot wounds, aggravated assaults and more.
  • Health care worker benefit rider provides additional benefits for job-related accidents such as occupational exposures to HIV, hepatitis and tuberculosis, with additional benefits for a later diagnosis resulting from the exposure.
  • Health systems additional benefit rider: Employees who experience a covered accidental injury can receive higher benefit amounts for certain medical services if provided within their employer’s system.

Enhanced group accident plans now automatically include:

  • Initial accident benefit applied to every approved claim to help employees cover even more out-of-pocket costs.
  • Coverage for common injuries and household accidents such as sprains, animal bites, carbon monoxide poisoning and electric shocks.
  • Additional benefits for covered injuries resulting from a crime.
  • Higher benefit amounts for emergency care, diagnostics, hospitalizations and other medical services.
