CLEARBROOK, MINNESOTA / ACCESS Newswire / July 21, 2025 / The Clearbrook-Gonvick School District ("Clearbrook-Gonvick") takes the security and privacy of their employees' and students' information seriously. As part of that commitment, Clearbrook-Gonvick is writing regarding a data privacy incident that may have affected the personal information of certain school community members.
What Happened
On October 17, 2024, Clearbrook-Gonvick became aware of a disruption in its school's computer network. Clearbrook-Gonvick took immediate action to secure its systems, which included taking parts of their network offline. Clearbrook-Gonvick retained outside cyber incident professionals to investigate the incident. As part of that investigation, Clearbrook-Gonvick learned that certain data was accessed or acquired from their network by an unauthorized actor between October 16 - 17, 2024. As a result, Clearbrook-Gonvick performed a detailed review of the contents of the impacted data to determine what was impacted and to whom that information relates. After a thorough investigation, on May 2, 2025, Clearbrook-Gonvick confirmed that certain personal information was contained in the data set.
What Information Was Involved
The information involved varied by individual but may have included individuals' names, Social Security numbers, driver's license or state ID numbers, individual taxpayer identification numbers, financial account information, and student identification numbers.
Individuals whose information was involved were notified on July 3, 2025 and July 11, 2025.
What is Clearbrook-Gonvick Doing?
Upon learning of the incident, Clearbrook-Gonvick took immediate steps to address it, including securing its systems and taking parts of its network offline. Clearbrook-Gonvick retained cyber incident professionals and notified federal law enforcement. Clearbrook-Gonvick is reviewing existing security policies and protections already in place on its network and adopting additional security to safeguard against evolving threats moving forward.
Additionally, Clearbrook-Gonvick is offering complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services, free of charge, to individuals whose Social Security numbers were involved through Kroll, a global leader in risk mitigation and response. What Impacted Individuals Can Do
As a general matter, one should remain vigilant by reviewing credit reports, financial account statements, and explanation of benefits forms for suspicious activity and to detect errors. We also remind everyone that individuals are entitled to one free credit report annually from the each of the three major credit reporting bureaus, TransUnion, Experian, and Equifax. Individuals can further educate themselves regarding identity theft, fraud alerts, credit freezes, and the steps to take to protect personal information by contacting the credit reporting bureaus, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), or state Attorneys General.
