Melissa Helton, President and General Manager of FanDuel Sportsbook and Horse Racing in Collinsville, Illinois, was recently selected as Top General Manager of the Year for 2023 by the International Association of Top Professionals (IAOTP) for her outstanding leadership, dedication, and commitment to the industry.
Inclusion with the International Association of Top Professionals is an honor in itself; only a few members in each discipline are chosen for this distinction. These special honorees are distinguished based on their professional accomplishments, academic achievements, leadership abilities, longevity in the field, other affiliations and contributions to their communities. With over 25 years of experience in this field, Melissa has certainly proven herself as an expert and driving force in the gaming industry. As a dynamic results-driven leader Melissa has demonstrated success in not only her role as General Manager and President of Fanduel Sportsbook and Horse Racing, but in every position she has ever held. Her impressive repertoire of prior roles have included serving as Senior Vice President of Finance for Del Lago Resort & Casino, Senior Manager of Finance and Accounting for Hoosier Park Racing & Casino, Director of Finance Operations at Indiana Grand, Controller for Arizona Biltmore, Apache Gold Casino, Tropicana, Belle of Baton Rouge and Caesars.
Her present day-to-day responsibilities leading FanDuel’s Sportsbook and Horse Racing as President and General Manager since 2020, includes, but is not limited to, managing, finance, business operations, communications with jockeys and caring for horses after races, strategic planning, gaming and hotel industry knowledge.
Before embarking on her career path, Ms. Helton attended Indiana University Southeast to receive her Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 2003, and she did not set out to work in the hotel or sports industries.
Throughout her illustrious career, Ms. Helton has won numerous awards and accolades for her excellence in the field. This year, she will be considered for IAOTP’s Empowered Woman Award, to be featured on the Nasdaq billboard and to be featured in TIP (Top Industry Professionals) Magazine. She will be honored at IAOTP'S annual awards gala being held at the iconic Plaza Hotel in NYC this December where she will receive her award on stage as Top General Manager of the Year. She has also been featured as one of the Who's Who of Professional Women.
Aside from her successful career, Ms. Helton is also very active in her community as sitting on the boards of both the local chamber of commerce and the Department of Agriculture.
