Microblading is a form of permanent makeup, sometimes known as semi-permanent eyebrows or eyebrow tattoos. Now the world’s most popular permanent makeup treatment, microblading is used to improve the appearance of eyebrows. 10-12 micro needles are used on a special handheld tool that scratches the surface of the skin. This creates hair like strokes that pigment is then implanted into to create the illusion of hairs.

Microblading usually last around one to three years, but no matter how hard you try it will always fade and MS AMBER RED has advised that what type of brow you get can also make a difference.

Why Does The Pigment Fade?

  • Skin type is a big factor when it comes to early fading with microblading. If your skin is oily the pigment will not hold in the skin as well, causing fading to occur sooner. But if your skin is normal to dry then the pigment will hold better, making it last longer.

  • Skin care routines play a major role in fading. Some chemicals that come in contact with the pigment may cause it to breakdown thereby causing fading to increase.

  • Depth of the pigment is important as if the pigment is not implanted deep enough into the skin, then it will fade sooner. Pigment needs to be implanted into the dermis (second layer of skin), just slight under the epidermis (first layer of skin). If the pigment is implanted too deep into the skin, then it will scar, turn grayish, blotchy, and dark.

  • Ultraviolet light causes pigment to fade, if you are in the sun and have not protected your microbladed eyebrows from the Ultraviolet rays then the pigment will fade.

Make Your Microblading Last Longer

  • Doing the aftercare procedure is really important as the aftercare process is what helps you have the best results.

  • Avoiding sunlight as much as physically possible. UV light makes the pigment fade.

  • Allowing natural healing. picking, rubbing or scratching can cause the pigment to peel.

  • Having a healthy diet and drinking plenty of water. This keeps the skin hydrated.

  • Going for regular touch ups as and when your artist advises. This helps keep on top of the fading and keeps the shape and colour you want. Your brows will eventually fade away if you do not continue with top ups every 18 months or so. There is no scaring or discolouration with the pigments used, so you would not know if you left them to fade out.
