Authentic Ego Launches Kickstarter to Fund the First Acne Care System Built on the Science of Why Breakouts Happen
Authentic Ego a science backed skincare brand founded by Christina Brooks Potts today announced the launch of a Kickstarter campaign to fund three new skincare formulations designed specifically for acne prone skin.
The campaign runs from March 13 through April 12 2026 and represents the brands first public capital raise as well as the commercial debut of its proprietary formulation framework targeting the biological mechanisms behind acne.
Acne prone skincare formulations have not meaningfully evolved in decades. Current research increasingly identifies upstream drivers such as sebum lipid peroxidation disruption of the skin microbiome hormonally driven skin sensitivity chronic barrier dysfunction and inflammatory oxidative stress as key contributors to acne pathology.
Authentic Ego was created to address these root causes rather than only treating surface symptoms.
Acne is the most common skin condition in North America affecting an estimated forty percent of women through adulthood. Despite this prevalence adult women with hormonally influenced acne remain underserved by existing products which often rely on aggressive active ingredients that further damage the skin barrier or formulations that do not adequately address acne.
Authentic Ego organizes its product development around what the brand calls the Acne Pyramid a formulation framework addressing five biological mechanisms that contribute to acne prone skin.
Founder Christina Brooks Potts created the brand after a career spanning pharmacogenomics pharmaceutical consulting and beauty retail including work with Sephora. She is currently studying cosmetic chemistry and is developing a clinical advisory board including a board certified dermatologist.
The Kickstarter campaign allows the brand to validate consumer demand and build a community around adult acne solutions before expanding into wholesale and clinical partnership channels.
