TAIPEI, TAIWAN (MERXWIRE) – The 17th Asian Conference on Machine Learning (ACML 2025), one of the most influential machine learning conferences in the Asia-Pacific region, was held from December 9 to 12, 2025, at the Hua Nan Bank International Convention Center in Taipei. This marked ACML’s highly anticipated return to Taiwan after its 2011 edition – highlighting Taiwan’s rising role in the global AI research landscape.

This year’s conference featured a distinguished lineup of world-renowned scholars, with a special spotlight on Prof. Craig Knoblock, Director of the Information Sciences Institute (ISI) at the University of Southern California (USC). As a leading researcher in knowledge graphs, data integration, and intelligent systems, Prof. Knoblock shaped foundational technologies that underpin modern AI applications. His keynote offered forward-looking insights into how knowledge-centric AI could drive the next decade of machine learning innovation.

Showcasing Taiwan’s AI Research Momentum

Since its establishment in 2009, ACML has traveled across Japan, Korea, Australia, China, Singapore, Vietnam, India, and Turkey, establishing itself as a premier forum for machine learning researchers in the Asia-Pacific region.
ACML 2025 General Chair Prof. Shou-De Lin of National Taiwan University remarked:
“Hosting ACML in Taipei is especially meaningful. Taiwan not only plays a critical role in the global semiconductor and AI hardware ecosystem, but also continues to cultivate world-class talent in machine learning and algorithmic research. This conference provides a valuable opportunity for deeper scholarly exchange between Taiwan and the international ML community.”

Academic Depth, Global Reach, and Frontier Topics

ACML 2025 presented a rich program covering fundamental advances and emerging frontiers in machine learning. In addition to Prof. Knoblock, the conference welcomed keynotes from other internationally recognized scholars, including Prof. Kun Zhang of Carnegie Mellon University, a leading authority in causal discovery.

This year’s conference also strengthened its global outreach through an expanded international call for papers and a reinforced partnership with the Machine Learning Journal, offering both a Conference Track and Journal Track to support high-impact research dissemination.

Furthermore, ACML 2025 hosted a dedicated Industry Panel featuring senior research and technology leaders from Google, MediaTek, Taiwan AI Cloud, Appier, and ITRI, fostering dialogue between academia and industry on real-world AI challenges and opportunities.
