SYNERGY HEALS launches a fundraising initiative for West Africa to provide clean water, sanitation, and hygiene services, aiming to save children under five annually from preventable waterborne diseases.

-- SYNERGY HEALS has launched a fundraising initiative targeting the Kankan region of West Africa, aiming to save children under the age of five from disease and death by providing access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene. The campaign addresses a critical health crisis in which contaminated water sources fuel preventable diseases, offering potential donors and philanthropists a concrete opportunity to deliver measurable, life-saving impact in communities facing severe water insecurity.

According to UNICEF, 190 million children across 10 African countries, including several in West and Central Africa, face a triple threat of inadequate water, sanitation, and hygiene services (WASH); related diseases; and climate hazards. Globally, over 1,000 children under five die every day from WASH-related diseases, with approximately two out of five deaths concentrated in these high-risk African countries. The convergence of these factors has created an urgent humanitarian crisis demanding immediate intervention and sustained funding to protect vulnerable populations.
Recent regional data underscores the severity of waterborne illness in West and Central Africa in particular, explains the team at SYNERGY HEALS. A study conducted in Ebolowa, Cameroon, revealed that 97% of children aged 0-5 years surveyed suffered from waterborne diseases, with diarrhea accounting for 78.62% of the reasons families sought health services.
In addition, recent cholera outbreaks in Sudan and Nigeria have shown fatality rates up to three times the global average. Children under five are disproportionately affected; Sudan reported a Case Fatality Rate of 3.1% and Nigeria 2.9%, both exceeding the 1% minimum standard established by international health organizations.
In response, the Kankan initiative sets ambitious targets aligned with international humanitarian standards for water provision, planning to supply 2 million people with 6 gallons of clean water per person daily for drinking, hand washing, cooking, and farm animals. This approach addresses not only immediate health needs but also supports agricultural livelihoods and community resilience.
SYNERGY HEALS works to save lives and foster healthier communities by funding clean water projects that deliver sustainable infrastructure rather than temporary relief.
