Discover South Carolina, in conjunction with the VisitFlo initiative, launches a new guide detailing the attractions and culinary stops along Florence County’s popular Pecan Trail.

-- As culinary tourism becomes increasingly popular, the VisitFlo initiative has published a new visitor guide, complete with a downloadable map, highlighting the range of restaurants and businesses along Florence County’s Pecan Trail. First established in 2017, the South Carolina Pecan Trail runs from downtown Florence to Lake City.

Sometimes referred to as ‘foodie travel,’ the US culinary tourism market was valued at almost $2.7 billion last year, and is expected to grow at a CAGR of 19.2% over the next five years, according to reporting from Grand View Research. Culinary travel incorporates a range of activities, such as sampling local cuisines, visiting farms and vineyards, and participating in food festivals.
Discover South Carolina points out that pecans play a central role in the heritage of Florence, featuring heavily in the city’s annual Pecan Music and Food Festival, held each November. The new guide is designed to highlight the year-round attractions that are also available.
The Pecan Trail comprises a circuit of local businesses offering a selection of specialty dishes, beverages, and crafts, such as pecan pie martinis, southern pecan pancakes, or Pecan Danish Pizza. Visitors can collect stamps from each participating business using a Pecan Trail Passport, available at the Florence Convention and Visitors Bureau.
“Started officially in 2017, the SC Pecan Trail highlights local restaurants and businesses that display pecans in food, crafts, and more,” a VisitFlo representative explained. “Visit stops along the South Carolina Pecan Trail and get your passport stamped when you stop in. A fully completed passport earns you a nutcracker, drawstring bag, T-shirt, and pie plate.”
