Chief of Police of the Nation’s Capital Presents Thalia Ghiglia with Outstanding Service Award for her work with the Foundation for a Drug-Free World

Police officers and community leaders honored for their work to better the District of Columbia

In the Nation’s Capital, Chief of Police Pamela A. Smith presented Thalia Ghiglia with the Chief of Police Special Award in recognition of Ghiglia’s “outstanding service to the District of Columbia and her contributions to the Metropolitan Police Department.” Ghiglia is the Faith Liaison for the Foundation for a Drug-Free World of Washington, DC,.

Ghiglia, through her work with the Foundation for a Drug-Free World and the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office, has been a constant presence in the community, whether educating youth on drugs, empowering individuals to make good choices, or working with community partners to build community and improve public safety.

Every year, the Police Chief presents a handful of civilian awards in addition to those they give to their sworn members for work above and beyond their regular duties in service to the DC community.

According to the awards ceremony program booklet, “The Chief of Police Special Awards are given to residents, businesses, other agencies and community members who have helped advance the mission of the Metropolitan Police Department. These individuals are advocates and supporters who’ve helped strengthen community connections and have made significant contributions to help keep neighborhoods safe and vibrant.”

Citing Ghiglia’s contributions, the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) award praised her work. “For example, Ghiglia has given classes to students in the community on behalf of the Drug-Free World Foundation. A member of MPD Chief Pamela Smith’s Faith Advisory Council, Ghiglia frequently participates in community walks and other events… Ghiglia (has) been a tremendous asset to MPD and 4D [4th District Police area] would not be the same without her.”

“This means everything to me,” said Ghiglia. “Other awardees, both this year and in past years, civilian and sworn, have served as examples to me in my approach to the community. I am extremely proud to share their company. And the individuals we have partnered with over the last nine years at MPD are consummate professionals, completely dedicated to serving this community and making it a better place for everyone. It has been my privilege to work alongside them.”
