Growing the game through a hockey community where people train, compete, and belong.
Today, The Hockey Barn, Inc. announced the launch of a new hockey brand built around one simple mission: creating a better hockey experience. Opening its flagship location this August, The Hockey Barn introduces a membership-based hockey community designed to become the home where players, families, coaches, officials, fans, and the organizations that support them come together to strengthen relationships, inspire development, and grow the game.
The Hockey Barn was created around one simple belief:
Hockey deserves more than another rink. It deserves a home.
Built on the philosophy that better hockey experiences begin with the environment, every aspect of The Hockey Barn was intentionally designed to create a place where players develop, families connect, coaches inspire, and communities grow.
For more than 40 years in the game and nearly three decades as a coach, mentor, and leader, Founder Kyle Kinzie came to realize that the greatest hockey experiences were never defined by a scheduled practice, lesson, or game. They were built through conversations in the lobby, friendships in the locker room, coaches who invested beyond the game, parents who became lifelong friends, and teammates who became family.
Those experiences shaped a philosophy that continues to guide every decision at The Hockey Barn.
The right environment inspires people.
The right coaches and mentors develop players.
The right community grows the game.
Long before hockey became defined by schedules, private lessons, and rented ice, the local hockey barn was the home of the hockey community. It was more than a place to play. It was where players, families, coaches, and fans came together. Where relationships were built, mentors were found, and a lifelong love for the game took root.
That's the kind of hockey home The Hockey Barn was created to build.
Just as a house becomes a home because of the people and memories inside it, hockey barns became the heart of their communities because of the experiences they created. The Hockey Barn isn't recreating the past. It's carrying forward what has always made hockey special and reimagining it for the future.
Every decision behind The Hockey Barn began with one simple question:
How do we create a better hockey experience?
The answer wasn't to build another rink. It was to create the kind of environment where great hockey experiences naturally happen.
Because better hockey experiences begin with the environment.
That answer became the blueprint behind every decision that followed.
"When I look back on the best moments in hockey, they were never just about what happened during the game. They were about the people, the relationships, and the environment that surrounded it.
Hockey has always been about more than just playing a game. It's about bringing people together, building lifelong friendships, strengthening families, inspiring communities, and passing a love for the game from one generation to the next.
That's why we didn't create The Hockey Barn to be another place to play. We created it to be the hockey home where people come together to train, compete, belong, and experience everything that makes hockey special. When you create an environment people genuinely love being part of, better hockey naturally follows."
— Kyle Kinzie, Founder
Everything about The Hockey Barn was intentionally designed to bring people together around the game they love. Whether training, competing, learning, or simply enjoying time together, every moment is designed to strengthen relationships, inspire development, and grow the game. Every decision, every program, and every experience is guided by three simple principles: Train. Compete. Belong.
The Hockey Barn wasn't designed around the traditional transactional rink routine. It was intentionally designed to create more reasons for people to stay, connect, and enjoy the game together. Better hockey naturally follows.
General Manager Ian McDonald has experienced that philosophy firsthand.
Kinzie first coached McDonald while he captained the Kennesaw State University hockey team. Their relationship evolved from player and coach into mentor and mentee before McDonald joined him to help bring The Hockey Barn to life.
"Coach Kinzie invested in me long before The Hockey Barn existed. I experienced firsthand what happens when someone believes in you beyond your performance on the ice. Now we have the opportunity to create that same experience for thousands of players and families. We're building more than a place to play. We're building the kind of hockey home every player hopes to find."
— Ian McDonald, General Manager
Whether someone is discovering hockey for the first time or has loved the game for a lifetime, The Hockey Barn was created to become their hockey home. By supporting local rinks, partnering with clubs and organizations, expanding access to the game, and bringing the hockey community together, The Hockey Barn exists to inspire development and grow the game for generations to come.
The opening of its flagship location marks the beginning of a much larger vision: building environments that strengthen communities, welcome more people into the game, inspire a lifelong love for hockey, and make the game stronger than we found it. The Hockey Barn was created to set a new standard for how communities experience hockey.
About The Hockey Barn
The Hockey Barn is a membership-based hockey community redefining how people experience the game. Inspired by the freedom, creativity, and accessibility of backyard pond hockey, The Hockey Barn was built on one simple belief: better hockey experiences begin with the environment.

Through innovative programming, intentionally designed experiences, and a community-first philosophy, The Hockey Barn exists to welcome more people into hockey, strengthen local hockey communities, and grow the game through better hockey experiences.
