Advanced continuing education program for AGD Masters dentists will focus on therapeutic neurotoxin applications, hands-on training, and evidence-based patient care.
SACRAMENTO, CA / ACCESS Newswire / July 29, 2026 / Dental educator and implant-focused clinician Dr. Andrea Joy Smith, DDS, DICOI, DIAMDI, will lead a two-day continuing education program focused on therapeutic Botox applications in dentistry for the New England Masters Study Club on September 18-19, 2026.
The New England Masters Study Club, established exclusively for Masters of the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD), provides advanced continuing education programs for experienced dental professionals pursuing lifelong learning, professional distinction, and clinical excellence. The organization's membership includes approximately 50 seasoned general dentists, many of whom hold AGD Mastership recognition, Lifelong Learning and Service Recognition (LLSR) awards, and American Board of General Dentistry (ABGD) certification.
The course, titled "Therapeutic Botox for Dentistry: Therapeutic Applications, Hands-On Practice, and Patient-Centered Care," will take place as part of the New England Masters Study Club's 2026 educational programming. The comprehensive two-day, 16-hour training is designed to help dentists integrate therapeutic neurotoxin treatments into clinical practice using an evidence-based approach for managing muscle tension, bruxism, temporomandibular disorders (TMD), and related orofacial pain conditions.
The program includes a pre-course online learning module followed by an in-person educational experience featuring approximately eight hours of didactic instruction and eight hours of hands-on training. Participants will receive instruction on the science of botulinum toxin, head and neck anatomy, patient evaluation, diagnosis, treatment planning, pharmacological effects, contraindications, informed consent, complication management, and clinical protocols.
The hands-on portion will include mannequin-based exercises, live demonstrations, and supervised practice focused on neurotoxin reconstitution, injection techniques, and treatment planning. Participants will also explore adjunctive therapies, including trigger point injections, diode laser therapy, and additional pain management strategies.
STATDDS, a dental distributor and medical supply provider, will serve as a sponsor for the program and support the hands-on training experience. A STATDDS representative will be available during the event to answer product-related questions and provide information about supplies used in therapeutic injection procedures. Materials provided for the hands-on portion will include injection needles, Xeomin® (incobotulinumtoxinA), saline, and other clinical supplies required for administering therapeutic neurotoxin treatments.
The curriculum emphasizes patient-centered communication, safety protocols, documentation standards, and ethical treatment considerations to help dentists develop the knowledge and confidence needed to incorporate therapeutic Botox procedures into their practices.
