The Board of Trustees approved four leaders, all promoted from within the district, to new principal and assistant superintendent roles for the upcoming school year.
FLORENCE, SC / ACCESS Newswire / June 5, 2026 / Florence 1 Schools will welcome four administrators into new roles next school year after the district's Board of Trustees approved their appointments during its monthly meeting. Each leader is being promoted from within the district's own schools.
Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education
South Florence High School Principal Shand Josey will become the Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Education, replacing Michelle Wynn, who is retiring at the end of the current school year.
"I am honored to serve as the new Assistant Superintendent for Elementary Schools in Florence One Schools," Josey said. "Over the past 21 years, Florence One Schools has become so much more than the place where I work - it has become home. I have had the privilege of serving students and families at the elementary, middle, and high school levels, and those experiences have shaped both my leadership and my heart for education. I look forward to helping ensure that every child in our district has access to outstanding educational experiences, meaningful opportunities, and the support they need to succeed."
South Florence High School Principal
Kristen Cue, who has served as an assistant principal at South Florence since 2022, will be the Bruins' new principal.
"It is with great excitement and gratitude that I transition into the role of principal at the school I have called home for the past four years," Cue said. "South Florence means so much to me, and I am honored to have the opportunity to continue fostering the culture of excellence and high expectations that define our school community. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated students, staff, families, and community members as we continue to build upon the strong traditions that make South Florence such a special place."
Briggs Elementary School Principal
Longtime Dewey L. Carter Principal Wendy Frazier will become a Briggs Elementary School Bulldog, replacing Kathryn Abbott as principal when Abbott departs at the end of the school year.
"I am incredibly honored and excited to join the Briggs Elementary School community," Frazier said. "For generations, Briggs has been a place where students have grown academically, socially, and emotionally while fostering strong connections among families and the community. I look forward to partnering with students, staff, families, and community members to build upon this proud tradition and continue supporting a culture of excellence, collaboration, and student success."
Dewey L. Carter Elementary School Principal
Next school year, the DLC Cubs will be led by their current assistant principal, Lindsay Cole.
"It is truly an honor to step into the role of principal at Dewey L. Carter Elementary School after serving as assistant principal alongside our incredible students, staff, and families," Cole said. "Dewey L. Carter has always felt like family to me, and I am excited to continue building strong community partnerships, encouraging family involvement, and supporting high levels of student achievement. I am grateful for the opportunity to follow the outstanding leadership of Wendy Frazier and to continue the tradition of excellence she helped establish."
Superintendent Dr. Richard O'Malley said the appointments reflect the strength of the leadership being cultivated within the district.
"I am extremely proud that each of these administrators is being promoted from within our buildings," O'Malley said. "As a district, we are always striving for excellence. Part of that is finding educators who have a passion for students and an interest in growing as leaders. Each of these administrators has demonstrated a commitment to strong academics, positive school cultures, and building relationships. I am confident that they will build on the strengths of the administrators before them and continue to lead with vision, dedication, and heart."
