Academic and Internship Experience

Ms. Russell's professional career is supported by a robust academic background and internship experience. By 2016, she had earned both a bachelor's degree in agricultural business with a focus on agronomy and crop science and a master's degree in agricultural economics from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. While pursuing her studies, she served as an intern at Agrigold in 2013, a grain merchandising intern at ADM in 2014 and a sales intern at Syngenta in 2015.

Continuing a Career at Syngenta

Confident in her skills after completing her internship at Syngenta, Ms. Russell recognized her potential with the company. In 2016, she became a full-time employee, building on her knowledge and growing expertise as a developmental sales representative. During her first year with Syngenta, she transitioned to a role as a crop protection sales representative, refining her skills in facilitation, relationship building, leadership and cross-cultural communication.

In 2021, Syngenta appointed Ms. Russell as field force excellence and training commercial unit lead, and she has served in this capacity since. In this role, she collaborates with internal teams and external customers, enhances people skills and capacity development, creates leadership strategies, develops talent, and provides one-on-one coaching workshops. These key initiatives have helped Syngenta grow and enable efficient development strategies.

Civic Involvement and Memberships

Outside of her professional career, Ms. Russell is active in several civic organizations, including Meals from the Heartland and Ronald McDonald House Charities. Additionally, she is a member of the National FFA Organization, Illinois Agri-Women, the St. Louis AgriBusiness Club, Sigma Alpha Alumni and the Southern Illinois University Alumni Association. Ms. Russell has also been a keynote speaker for many events, including Women Changing the Face of Agriculture, FFA events, and other leadership seminars.

Ms. Russell has received several awards and accolades for her expertise in people development and relationship building. To wit, Cowgirl Magazine included her on their 30 Under 30 list, which honors women blazing trails in the western and agriculture industries. Driven by the desire to help others uncover their passions, she is sure to continue achieving much in and outside of her field.

Advancing the Story of Agriculture

Ms. Russell has observed trends harming the agriculture industry today, including both the cost at the farm gate for the producer, as well as rising consumer costs at the grocery store. As the majority of Americans and people worldwide become disconnected from their food sources, it will be essential for leaders like Ms. Russell to rebuild key relationships with the small percentage of individuals who are essentially feeding entire nations.

As such, Ms. Russell aims to continue sharing the story of agriculture and advocating for agricultural workers while nurturing the next generation of individuals who will contribute to the industry. Additionally, she hopes to continue her personal growth and spend more time with her family, embracing any challenges that come her way.
