Verdun Windows and Doors has officially broken ground on a state-of-the-art, 104,000 sq ft manufacturing campus in Vars Industrial Park, representing one of the most significant private investments in Eastern Ontario's window and door industry in recent years.
RUSSELL TOWNSHIP, ON / ACCESS Newswire / July 21, 2025 / Verdun Windows and Doors has officially broken ground on a state-of-the-art, 104,000 sq ft manufacturing campus in Vars Industrial Park, representing one of the most significant private investments in Eastern Ontario's window and door industry in recent years. With a price tag of nearly $30 million and support from a $1 million contribution by the Government of Canada through FedDev Ontario, the project aims to expand Verdun's production capacity, introduce new product lines, and-most importantly-generate 150-200 new skilled jobs in the Ottawa area.
For Verdun Windows and Doors, this isn't just about growing bigger-it's about growing smarter, greener, and more connected to the local economy. This investment reinforces the company's long-term vision of building strong, sustainable communities by manufacturing high-performance products and developing meaningful careers.
A Groundbreaking Moment for Ottawa's Manufacturing Sector
The Vars facility marks a new chapter in Verdun Windows and Doors' over 40-year journey of Canadian craftsmanship. The company selected this site to expand its manufacturing capabilities, reduce supply chain dependency, and support its rapidly growing customer base. This modern campus will feature advanced equipment, enhanced R&D labs, and office space-creating a hub of innovation and productivity.
"This isn't just a factory-it's a cornerstone for the future of window manufacturing in our region," said Verdun's CEO during the groundbreaking event. "We're building locally because we believe strong communities start with strong supply chains."
Prioritizing Local Employment and Long-Term Careers
Verdun Windows and Doors is committed to hiring from within the region. The company is actively creating career opportunities in roles including CNC machine operation, quality assurance, logistics, maintenance, sales support, and administration. A major initiative includes partnerships with local colleges to launch internship and apprenticeship programs, equipping recent graduates with practical experience and direct access to full-time positions.
"Our focus is on long-term, meaningful employment," noted Verdun's HR Director. "This is not gig work-these are stable, skilled positions in an industry that's growing. And we're investing in training to make sure our employees are confident and capable on day one."
The company plans to host a community job fair in late summer 2025, where interested applicants can tour the facility, interact with Verdun leadership, and apply for early training opportunities before the plant goes live. This forward-thinking approach ensures new employees will be well-prepared as production ramps up.
Advanced Technology, Made for Canadian Homes
The new facility is not only larger, but also smarter. Verdun will incorporate high-precision CNC machinery, automated profile fabrication, and real-time quality-control systems to support its proprietary RevoCell™ window line. These investments will increase production by 50% and reduce lead times for customers across Ottawa and beyond.
"Manufacturing locally gives us control, speed, and precision that overseas or third-party providers simply can't offer," said the company's Manufacturing Director. "It's about bringing world-class innovation back home-and producing windows designed for Canadian winters, right here in the Ottawa area."
Built with Sustainability in Mind
In line with Verdun's commitment to environmental stewardship, the new facility is engineered for low impact and high efficiency. It features rooftop solar panels, LED motion-sensitive lighting, electric vehicle charging stations, and rainwater harvesting systems. A zero-waste-to-landfill policy will be implemented, helping the company stay ahead of evolving environmental regulations and customer expectations.
"This is a facility where responsibility and performance go hand in hand," said Verdun's Sustainability Officer. "We're not just manufacturing products-we're building a greener future."
This focus on sustainability is nothing new for Verdun Windows and Doors. The company earned ENERGY STAR® Canada Special Recognition Awards in both 2023 and 2024 for its high-efficiency window designs and was most recently awarded HomeStars Best of the Best 2025 for customer satisfaction and product excellence.
A Boost for Local Suppliers and Economic Growth
Verdun's expansion will have ripple effects across Eastern Ontario's business ecosystem. The company intends to work closely with regional suppliers for materials and services including glass, aluminum extrusions, custom packaging, and industrial maintenance.
"By sourcing locally, we're speeding up production, reducing emissions, and strengthening our supply chain," explained the company's Procurement Manager. "It's a win for Verdun, a win for our partners, and a win for the environment."
This collaborative model ensures the new facility benefits more than just Verdun-it stimulates job creation and resilience across the entire local manufacturing network.
Community and Political Support
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together stakeholders from all levels of government and the local community. Notable attendees included Mayor Mike Tarnowski, MPP Stéphane Sarrazin, and MP Giovanna Mingarelli, who celebrated the project's long-term potential and the federal government's financial contribution.
"This investment is more than a building-it's a signal of confidence in the people and the potential of Russell Township," said Mayor Mike Tarnowski. "Verdun's expansion will bring families closer to opportunity and raise the bar for sustainable development in our region."
MP Mingarelli added, "The Government of Canada is proud to support Verdun Windows and Doors through FedDev Ontario. Investments like this help rural communities flourish and grow stronger, greener economies."
Revitalizing Neighborhoods and Local Commerce
The economic impact of Verdun's new facility is already being felt. Area businesses-from transportation to retail to childcare-have reported increases in activity. Real estate professionals are seeing rising interest in neighborhoods around the campus, with new buyers citing convenient access to long-term employment and amenities.
"This project is energizing our local economy in ways we hadn't anticipated," said one local business owner. "There's a real sense of optimism about what's to come."
Putting Customers First-From Factory to Front Door
Despite its growing footprint, Verdun Windows and Doors remains laser-focused on the customer experience. With all windows manufactured in the Ottawa area and installed by trained, long-standing crews, the company ensures continuity, quality, and clear communication every step of the way.
"Our vertically integrated model means homeowners deal with one company-from start to finish," said the company's Customer Experience Manager. "No gaps, no runaround-just beautifully installed windows backed by service you can trust."
Innovation, Heritage, and a Vision for the Future
Since 1982, Verdun Windows and Doors has stood for quality, craftsmanship, and integrity. The Vars facility continues that legacy while expanding the company's capabilities. New dedicated R&D labs within the campus will allow for in-house testing, prototyping, and exploration of future innovations in energy efficiency and design.
"RevoCell™ isn't just our flagship window line-it represents our commitment to raising the standard," said Verdun's R&D Director. "With this new space, we're investing in both today's solutions and tomorrow's breakthroughs."
