Five-part series explores the state of the nation's political, cultural, and psychological decency
HOUSTON, TX / ACCESSWIRE / November 12, 2024 / LSV Communications announces today the publishing of part 1, the introduction, of No More Decency?, a five-part series examining the current state of political, cultural, and psychological decency in the United States. The essay is published in the website's blog section.
Deeply concerned about the apparent erosion of the nation's decency values of compassion, understanding, and empathy, LSV Communications' founder Bruce Goldfaden did a sustained three-month research project to understand the situation and its causes. His findings offer a comprehensive look at the decency erosion from three distinct perspectives:
political-A disturbing public opinion poll from fall 2023 reveals a belief among a large number of Americans that extreme measures are acceptable for changing political leadership.
cultural-A series of events in 2024 highlights the far-reaching effects of social media on our nation's adolescents.
psychological-The century-long question about the possible effects of media violence on behavior remains as fractured as ever, even as crime increases in schools and in the US overall.
The research traces the beginning of the decency erosion to the new millennium with the dotcom crash in March 2000 and continuing through the two assassination attempts in mid-2024. What is striking is how quickly the new millennium brought so many challenges upon the nation. Instead of coming together to heal, these waves of turmoil-intensified by the COVID-19 crisis-have polarized the nation.
The polarization is seriously threatening our core decency values of compassion, understanding, and empathy that have historically guided Americans to honor diverse perspectives, engage in respectful communication, and take responsibility for their actions. By fostering an atmosphere of mutual respect and trust, these values have been the foundation of an emotionally healthy US society.
The essay's conclusion presents five actionable ideas to reinvigorate these essential decency values, offering a path toward healing and unity to bridge the nation's deep division. Each reader is invited to consider these ideas as a constructive way forward for the United States, inspiring hope for positive change.
The essay's four following parts will be published each Tuesday in the agency's blog section.
