Columbus, OH - Noted author Lourdes J. Astraquillo Ongkeko, Ph.D., unveils her personal journey as a young child during one of the most tumultuous periods in history in her new book, "A Child of World War II Writes: Love is Timeless in War and in Peace: A Truth Beyond Compare."
Drawing from her experiences as a 13-year-old during the War in the Pacific, Ongkeko provides an intimate look into the lives of the Filipino youth during World War II. The book offers a unique vantage point, showcasing how hope, resilience, and the human spirit thrived even in the face of extreme adversity. Through her narrative, readers are reminded that love endures, whether in times of war or peace.
Ongkeko recalls the harrowing day of December 8, 1941, when her hometown, Baguio City in the Northern Philippines, faced carpet bombing. Her tale is one of survival, resilience, and the unwavering hope of liberation. Alongside the historical narrative, she weaves in personal anecdotes of love and family, particularly the steadfast love of her father amidst the challenges of wartime.
"My father emphasized on holding our own as a family unit," Ongkeko shares in her book. “We, who were the immediate recipients of his caring attitude and love, drew much knowledge relevant to dealing with certain cultural differences exhibited by the enemy forces when time was of the essence.”
