CNH Industrial Continues Riparian Forest Project in Pennsylvania

By: 3BL Media

SOURCE: CNH Industrial

DESCRIPTION:

Last year CNH Industrial’s New Holland, Pa. site teamed up with the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay to establish a riparian buffer along the stream on the grounds of New Holland’s North American headquarters.

The riparian forest buffer consists of native trees and shrubs and helps protect and improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay by improving proper water infiltration through soil, reducing runoff and erosion, building healthy soil, and better regulating water temperature changes from tree canopy cover. As part of this partnership, CNH Industrial, New Holland’s parent company, planted over 2,000 trees and shrubs across 8.5 acres of its campus in New Holland, Pa.

Over the course of this year, the New Holland Campus Sustainability Team maintained the buffer through mowing practices that would eliminate competition from surrounding vegetation and kept track of the seedlings. However, as expected for a planting of this size, approximately 250 tree seedlings did not make it through the first year and needed to be replaced to maximize the environmental benefit of the buffer, both locally and downstream to the Chesapeake Bay.

During a recent Impact Day, members of the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay and CNH Industrial volunteers from across the New Holland campus, enjoyed a morning working together outdoors to replace the dead seedlings. This team effort plays a critical role in meeting Pennsylvania's riparian buffer and reforestation goals.
