Gun violence is an epidemic taking the lives of young men, women and children at alarming rates especially in Philadelphia. The horrific reality of gun violence is that it is growing, with a police report showing over 800 shootings this year, which is 25 percent more than was recorded last year.
On this note, Mr. Philadelphia & Company has organized a weekend-long event slated for August 27, 28, and 29, 2021, targeted at creating awareness and raising funds to support the mission to end gun violence in Philadelphia, and by extension, other parts of the United States. The event, which is tagged "Save Our Land, Heal Our City", will serve as a starting point to continue effective advocacy and outreach on the issue of gun violence.
The organizers hope to use the event to help families, increase public debates, strengthen community partnerships, reduce and ultimately end the cycle of violence. During the weekend-long event, majority of the funds that will be raised will be used in implementing programs and creating job opportunities to help tackle gun violence.
The event schedule is as follows:
- Friday, August 27 2021 – Stop The Gun Violence Black Tie and Heels Gala
- Saturday, August 28 2021 – Mr. Philadelphia Haute Couture Show
- Sunday, August 29 2021 – Mr. Philadelphia Day Party/Pop Up Shop.
