Indian Ocean Circuit Limited Announces Development of Innovative Motorsports Park on Mauritius

Port Louis, Nov 24, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Today, Indian Ocean Circuit Ltd (IOC) Mauritius announced the start of development on an ambitious, innovative, state-of-the-art motorsports park and "intelligent motorsport park city" on the island.  The new tourism and economic magnet will consist of an FIA Motor racing circuit along with housing, shopping, research, and other synergistic extensions of the motorsports core. The result will be an "ecosphere" around motorsports activities which will support businesses and entertainment, including concessions, hotels and restaurants, auto, and other complimentary leisure activity locations.

"A motorsport park and circuit on an island is quite unusual, isn't it?" asked Guillaume Goder, CEO of IOC Mauritius. "Innovation is everything, and nothing changes if nothing changes, as the old saying goes. We are living in a world where new ideas and positive evolution are of the utmost importance. Our company has a mission to establish growth and prosperity, giving pride and economic stability to Mauritius, which right now mostly relies on luxury tourism."

The motorsports concept offering augments the island's exciting image as a desired holiday destination. It combines world-class sports excitement with pristine beaches and upscale honeymoon hotels. Goder added, "Imagine offering something thrilling and new to the tourists visiting Mauritius and the opportunities for Mauritian residents themselves as we create never before imagined career opportunities for our citizens. To develop and support the existing economy and then exponentially grow unlimited opportunities creates a win-win for everyone with lasting prestige for the Government of Mauritius."

The unique motorsports concept is a forward-thinking project with the goal of creating an exciting economic destination that creates long term growth potential for the island of Mauritius. The project has been well received by the Government of Mauritius. It was originally conceptualized and spearheaded by private citizens who see supporting the economic development of their island country as patriotic and the best way to assure the next generations a viable and thriving life.

The centerpiece is an FIA Graded hybrid race circuit, which can accommodate international races such as MotoGP, Blancpain Series, DTM, Formula E and many more regional and local competitions. This flexible, hybrid approach enables the motorsports part to host a variety of motorsports events throughout the year--each bringing its own influx of racing teams, fans, media exposure and related economic activity.

IOC will also build an off-road racetrack to accommodate Motocross Racing, Rallycross, Stadium Super Truck, TROC Off-road and various professional, amateur club and other competitions. As Goder put it, "Mauritians will be proud to have world class international racing championships and all of the economic opportunities that it will bring." There is nothing geographically competing with the idea, because the closest motorsports infrastructure is in South Africa, and what exists there is only a race circuit not a Motorsport Park.

In addition to the main motorsports areas and related driving courses, the project encompasses a number of further infrastructure developments. These include land purchase, residential areas, related sports activity facilities, children's parks, shopping malls, business park complexes and business opportunities beneficial to international companies looking to take advantage of the attractive tax regime in Mauritius.

IOC is partnering on this project with Tilke GmbH, Ltd,  SDG International Circuit Consulting GmbH, DeCaulin Ltd - United Kingdom and Dono Consulting South Africa.
