ShiftLeft Expands Board of Directors with Distinguished Cybersecurity Industry Influencers

ShiftLeft, Inc., a leader in application security for developers, today announced the appointment of Stuart McClure and Adam Fletcher as the newest additions to its distinguished Board of Directors, effective immediately. McClure, the former CEO and founder of Cylance and Fletcher, the CISO of Blackstone, a leading global investment firm, will guide ShiftLeft’s next stage of growth as it disrupts the application security market with products purpose-built for developers within today’s modern software development lifecycle (SDLC).

With over three decades of experience in founding and leading high-growth cybersecurity and technology companies, Stuart McClure was the Founder, Executive Chairman and CEO/President of Cylance, the next-generation endpoint security company that revolutionized detection and protection through AI and machine learning. In 2019, Cylance was acquired by BlackBerry Limited (NYSE: BB; TSX: BB) for $1.5B to advance the company’s entire BlackBerry technology portfolio. Prior to this, McClure was the former Global CTO for McAfee/Intel, original Founder of Foundstone, and lead/founding author of the Hacking Exposed book series. A recognized security pioneer, McClure will join ShiftLeft’s Board of Directors to support the company through product innovation and corporate strategy.

"After building the first company dedicated to using Artificial Intelligence to fight against advanced threats, it's clear that organizations need to focus on stopping vulnerabilities in code before they ever make it out into the real world," said Stuart McClure. "CEO Manish Gupta and the entire ShiftLeft team are taking a novel approach to solve this problem while bridging the gap between security teams and developers – without impacting release schedules. I'm excited to join the board and provide guidance on how to scale and grow ShiftLeft into a global company."

As Blackstone’s CISO, Adam Fletcher is responsible for overseeing all aspects of cybersecurity across one of the leading global investment firms. He is also responsible for managing a small portfolio of investments in early-stage cybersecurity companies. Prior to joining Blackstone, Fletcher led the International Security Unit for Equifax and coordinated a global security program across 14 countries. He has served on the boards of Ataata and Preempt, and currently serves as an observer on the boards of CyberGRX and Pcysys.

“ShiftLeft is the only application security company that is capable of bridging the gap between traditional security teams and developers, a common bottleneck in organizations that struggle with balancing productivity and security,” said Adam Fletcher, CISO, Blackstone. “As the world shifts to a decentralized work environment, it is now more important than ever that developers feel empowered to produce secure code, without compromising time-to-market. I look forward to supporting the ShiftLeft team as a board observer and supporting the company as it enters this next stage of growth.”

“2021 is shaping up to be a significant year for ShiftLeft and one filled with significant potential for our team to continue developing innovative solutions,” said Manish Gupta, CEO, ShiftLeft. “We are committed to supporting the common challenges of security and productivity often troubling today’s developers. As such, we are pleased to welcome Stuart and Adam, two seasoned experts to our Board of Directors for their strategic guidance and support.”
