On the subject of his educational background, Dr. Al-Khoudari received his medical degree from the University of Damascus, Faculty of Medicine in Syria, and then relocated to complete his residency in internal medicine at the University of Toledo. He continued to pursue his chosen specialty by completing a fellowship in rheumatology at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. 

When he started his medical career, Dr. Al-Khoudari practiced as a chief hospitalist at Three Rivers Medical Center in Grants Pass, Oregon. He also served as a staff hospitalist at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland, Washington, before moving to Oklahoma to join the University of Oklahoma as an assistant professor in hospital medicine. While there, he graduated from the OU Leadership Academy Program.

To be closer to family and friends, he moved to Arizona, where he opened the Arizona Arthritis Clinic, PLLC. He is proud to be an Arizona resident and will become the Chair of the Arizona United Rheumatology Alliance by the end of 2020. 

Attributing his success to his passion for medicine and rheumatology, Dr. Al-Khoudari is a Fellow of the American College of Rheumatology (FACR), and a member of the Phoenix Rheumatology Association and the Syrian American Medical Society.

In addition, he is board-certified in both internal medicine and rheumatology by the American Board of Internal Medicine, a physician-led, non-profit, independent evaluation organization driven by doctors who want to achieve higher standards for better care in a rapidly changing world. 

Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Physicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists. Rheumatologists treat arthritis, autoimmune diseases, pain disorders affecting joints, and osteoporosis. There are more than 200 types of these diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, lupus, back pain, osteoporosis, and tendinitis.

In May of 2018, Dr. Al-Khoudari received the Medical Honoree Award for the Arthritis Foundation annual walk.

Outside of practicing medicine, he enjoys fishing, playing tennis, and biking. His favorite places to vacation are Istanbul, Italy, and Europe in general. His favorite professional publication is the  journal Arthritis & Rheumatology.
