Dr. Charise Breeden Announces Eye-opening Article Series on Food Insecurity Among Community College Students

By: Issuewire

New article series exposes food insecurity among community college students, namely those in New Jersey, through the research of Dr. Charise Breeden

Newark, Oct 13, 2020 (Issuewire.com) - Elevating the conversations surrounding the issue of food insecurity and its impact on community college students, Dr. Charise Breeden, founder and CEO of The Road to the Hood, will launch an all-new article series on LinkedIn.

The series will illuminate Charise Breeden's eye-opening research from her 2019 study about the levels of food insecurity faced by two-year students at an urban community college. The writings have been created to shed light on the state of food insecurity on community college campuses and highlight concerning correlations between high levels of food insecurity, race, low income, and gig work. It also includes fascinating excerpts of conversations with students, including one who shared that she sustained the entire school day on a single honey bun.

Dr. Charise transforms a conventional academic/social study into eye-opening, easy to read write-ups that personalize food insecurity sufferers while also calling out the dearth of meaningful community college food assistance programs.

In doing so, Breeden aims to educate, inspire and empower her audience of campus administrators and community stakeholders by offering a number of plug-and-play solutions, such as the creation of campus-based stores that accept SNAP benefits, to halt food insecurity among the growing population of community college students.

Students from whom the stories and data were collected range in age from 20 to 52. Diverse in age and in living arrangements, the participants were united by their determination to improve their prospects through higher education.

"By providing a better comprehension of the food insecurity faced by college students, namely those in New Jersey, it may be possible to determine specific programs that may serve to help this population."
