Timberland has long been a fan of trees. While the brand’s logo has been a tree, since its founding in 1973, the connection runs deeper than that. Because of the many environmental, social, and economic benefits of trees, Timberland has planted over 10.7 million trees worldwide since 2001. Last September the global outdoor lifestyle brand pledged to plant an additional 50 million trees by 2025. And now, Timberland is proud to apply that pledge to support American Forests and the World Economic Forum’s launch of the US Chapter of 1t.org – a global movement to conserve, restore, or grow one trillion trees worldwide by 2030.
Timberland is one of 26 companies, cities, and organizations with pledges that support the launch of the world’s first regional chapter of 1t.org. The U.S. chapter will provide individuals and organizations in the U.S. with tools and technical assistance to create and bring their pledges to life.
“A greener future is a better future and trees help forward that vision for us all,” said Atlanta McIlwraith, Timberland’s senior manager of community engagement and communication. “Timberland is proud to support the US chapter of 1t.org with our pledge to plant 50 million trees by 2025. 1t.org invites and enables us to join a broader community of stakeholders to power its global movement. We’re excited to bring our commitment and experience to the table and help achieve this bold goal.”
To fulfill its pledge, Timberland has partnered with six different organizations: Green Network, Justdiggit, Las Lagunas Ecological Park, Smallholder Farmers Alliance (SFA), TREE AID, and Trees for the Future. Timberland is also working with American Forests and Treedom on additional tree planting projects that are above and beyond the 50 million tree pledge. Projects in 2020 are focused on Haiti, China, the Dominican Republic, the United States, Tanzania and Mali – including support of the Great Green Wall, an African-led movement to grow an 8,000km line of trees across the entire width of Africa to fight climate change, drought, famine, conflict, and migration.
