State of Nebraska Signs New Contract with NIC’s Nebraska Interactive to Continue as the State’s Digital Government Services Provider

The state of Nebraska has signed a new long-term contract with Lincoln-based Nebraska Interactive LLC to continue as the state’s provider of digital government innovation. The contract includes an initial five-year term with an option to renewal for an additional two-year period that could extend services through April 2026. Nebraska Interactive is a part of NIC Inc. (Nasdaq: EGOV), the nation’s leading provider of digital government services.

“All of us at NIC appreciate the trust the State of Nebraska continues to place in us. It is a long-standing partnership in which we pioneered together to launch digital government in the days before the World Wide Web,” said Harry Herington, NIC Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board. “Since those early days, we have not wavered from our single focus to use the very latest technology to transform how citizens and businesses interact with their government. Nebraska is a great example of best-in-class digital government solutions creating convenience and efficiencies, and making a difference in people’s lives.”

Nebraska Interactive partners with more than 230 Nebraska state agencies, boards, commissions, and local governments to deliver convenient online services to citizens and businesses. Currently, the company manages more than 950 interactive government applications, including the online suite of services for the Secretary of State and over a dozen for the Nebraska Department of Motor Vehicles. In 2018 the groundbreaking Nebraska Brand Committee mobile application was completed, which allows inspectors to track cattle in the field and report results using an iPad with or without Internet connectivity. The Company also develops and manages the online, informational presence for more than 100 state and local entities.

“We are grateful for the collaboration we have with Nebraska Interactive,” said Ed Toner, CIO of the State of Nebraska. “While my team and I are focused on creating more efficient and effective solutions to serve the State’s technology needs, it is good to know we have an innovative partner in Nebraska Interactive to expand the number of modern digital government services available for the people of our state.”

Since Nebraska Interactive began providing digital government services in 1995, the state has received several national awards and honors, annually. More than a dozen awards we received in 2018, recognizing the Department of Motor Vehicles, four awards for the Department of Natural Resources, and a StateScoop 50 Award for IT Innovation of Year for the Nebraska State Patrol Conceal Handgun Permit Renewal/Replacement Permits application. In addition, in 2018 the state was recognized as a finalist in the Center for Digital Government’s Government Experience awards, which honors states that are providing a citizen-centric approach to delivering government services.

As with the original contract, Nebraska Interactive will continue to provide services to the state using a sustainable transaction-based funding solution. This model provides for the development, maintenance, security, customer service support, and more to the state typically without the use of appropriated taxpayer budget dollars.
