CMS Consumer Survey Ranks Commonwealth Care Alliance®’s One Care as a Top Medicare-Medicaid Health Plan for Third Consecutive Year

Commonwealth Care Alliance’s (CCA) One Care plan received the nation’s highest rating in the 2018 Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) survey, administered by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS). This marks the third consecutive year that CCA’s One Care has earned the highest CAHPS score and reinforces CCA as a national model of care for complex patients with significant medical, behavioral health, and social needs.

“We are especially proud to have earned a top-quality rating for three years running because it demonstrates our success in building a person-centered care model to help our One Care Members who are among the highest-complexity and highest-cost individuals in the healthcare system,” said Christopher D. Palmieri, president and chief executive officer of CCA. “This nation-leading rating is also a testament to the dedication of CCA’s outstanding staff and providers, who work tirelessly to find innovative ways to keep our members healthy, out of hospitals and emergency rooms, and engaged in their own care.”

The results were released by CMS as a snapshot of the 2018 CAHPS survey of Medicare-Medicaid Plans (MMP). CAHPS is designed to:

  • Measure the accessibility and quality of an individual’s health care experience
  • Assist the public in assessing program effectiveness
  • Help MMPs identify areas for improvement

Through a series of questions, health plan members are asked to rate their experience. CCA earned 90% out of the best possible score of 100% -- one of just four plans in the country to achieve that score.

CCA’s One Care program is the largest Medicare-Medicaid Plan in Massachusetts, with nearly 20,000 adult members, ages 21 to 64. Members face a wide range of complex health and social issues, including chronic medical problems, intellectual and developmental disabilities, mental illness, or a history of substance abuse. CCA’s innovative, integrated approach to care has been proven to enable individuals with complex needs to live as independent and as full lives as possible, improving outcomes while reducing overall healthcare costs.
