Columbia, Missouri – Greg DeLine, a business leader and philanthropist from Columbia, Missouri, has spent his career building successful businesses with a focus on relationships and service. With a keen sense of how to develop a successful model to the maximum level, DeLine extended these business principles into philanthropy work by helping those who need help and empowering them, through tools and resources, to achieve their own maximum level and overcome whatever challenges they may have at that point in time.

When DeLine came across a group that embodied this philosophy, he knew he wanted to become involved.

The group, Segs4Vets, is a highly acclaimed nonprofit organization that awards Segways and ALLY Chair–adapted Segways to men and women of the United States military who sustained severe injuries that have resulted in permanent disability. Every dollar donated to Segs4Vets goes toward getting a disabled veteran into a Segway or ALLY chair.

Golf Tournament Fundraiser

One of Segs4Vets primary fundraisers is its annual Golf and Fireside Chat event. Greg DeLine is honored to be a supporting sponsor of the event.

Festivities kick off on October 14, 2018, with a fireside chat hosted by General Ed Eberhart with Mike Kelly, voice of the Missouri Tigers, emceeing. General Robin Rand will be interviewed this year. General Rand is a commander in the Air Force Global Strike Command and in the Air Forces Strategic – Air. The golf tournament follows on October 15.

Other dignitaries in attendance at this year’s event include General Hal Hornburg and Congressional Medal of Honor recipient Colonel HC Barney Barnum, among other notables.

Preceding the tournament, Segways will be presented to the newest recipients. ALLY Chair–adapted Segways are presented to vets who can’t use a standing Segway.

“This is an incredibly emotional presentation to our military men and women that helps solve some of the mobility issues facing our disabled veterans. This is one small way to help them serve themselves as they selflessly served our country,” said Greg DeLine. “It is a great honor to put together a team from Columbia and support this important organization that helps our veterans.”

Registration is now open for the annual Segs4Vets Golf and Fireside Chat. For the tournament, 18 teams will assemble at the Woods Golf Club in Weldon Springs, Missouri, to compete in a four-person scramble. All of the proceeds from the tournament go to Segs4Vets. To date, the team that DeLine is assembling from Columbia includes Tim Brown from TBrown Photography and Randy Michew, chief operating officer for DeLine Holdings. The golf team is a part of a much larger sponsorship commitment through Total Lending Concepts, one of DeLine’s businesses located in Columbia, Missouri

DeLine’s philosophy of “leaving the world better than he found it,” isn’t easy to accomplish, but that’s why he gets involved with organizations such as Segs4Vets. The organization doesn’t just help disabled veterans who have mobility challenges; having greater accessibility has an impact on their families, who are coping with the life changes as well.

“One of my business principles that carries over into my philanthropy support is when you have figured out a model for success, you keep doing it over and over again,” said DeLine. “Segs4Vets has this approach figured out when they take a Segway, or ALLY chair, and go through the process of customizing it for a recipient. It’s truly remarkable what they are doing.”

Segway ALLY chairs are custom made and are not cheap. Each one costs around $15,000. That’s why every dollar donated goes toward getting a disabled veteran into a chair.

Segs4Vets is a nonprofit organization that began in 2005 as a grass-roots effort by volunteers who passionately believe that when those serving our nation were sent into harm’s way and were severely injured, upon their return they must have access to every available resource which would allow for their successful reintegration into their communities.

In August 2006, the Segs4Vets program became the only recipient of a blanket waiver from the United States military allowing a donation in excess of $1,000 to active-duty military personnel.

In 2014 Segs4Vets, in addition to awarding Segways, began fabricating and awarding ALLY Chairs–adapted Segways which are operated in a seated position, for those who have unique needs and cannot make productive use of the Segway while standing.
