Live Engineer Webinar - Seismic Behavior of Helical Piles in Dense Sands

ADA, Okla. - June 26, 2018 - (Newswire.com)

Ram Jack will be hosting a free accredited live seismic webcast on July 19, at 1 P.M. EDT. The live webcast will feature Amy B. Cerato, PH.D., P.E., a Rapp Foundation Presidential Profession of Civil Engineering at the University of Oklahoma. Dr. Cerato will give an in-depth review of the seismic testing along with researched information on helical piles.

In the one-hour webcast, open to all civil, structural, and geotechnical engineers, contractors, transportation officials, structural design professionals, and construction project managers, participants will learn design methodology for helical piles under static loading and also be exposed to the importance of instrumentation and exhumation projects in seismic zones. They will also understand how helical pile behavior under various earthquake motions, in a group and how connection details affect behavior.

Helical piles are being used in seismic regions of the U.S. and other countries, yet there remains much confusion regarding the state of practice and building codes for this pile type.  Nonetheless, it is anticipated that piles with comparatively small cross-sections and high anchoring capacity, such as helical piles, could be beneficial for seismic resistance due to their slenderness, higher damping ratios, ductility, and resistance to tip uplift. Results from the premier full-scale seismic shake table testing program on helical piles in sands will be discussed.
