A Conversation with Jamal Moss aka Hieroglyphic Being

By: PRLog
World Renown DJ/ Producer to discuss the history of Electronic Music
CHICAGO - May 19, 2018 - PRLog -- The Hyde Park School of Music(HPSM) presents Jamal Moss a.k.a. Hieroglyphic Being for a discussion about "the Beginning of House music and its current state in Chicago", Thursday, June 7th at 7 p.m. at the Co-Prosperity Sphere located on 3219-21 S. Morgan St, Chicago, IL 60607. DJ Shannon Harris will be in attendance to add to the discussion. The event is open to the public. Admission is $12.00 at the door, $10.00 pre-sale at Eventbrite. This event is also sponsored by Chicago Phonic.

During the late 70s and early 80s, Chicago was ground zero for the birth of House music and EDM culture. The Electronic music scene was a multicultural incubator of music and fashion that resembled the city at large but rejected it's rigid hierarchy. Musicians and DJs with newly created instruments created a pulse that is now heard across the world. Jamal Moss came of age in that culture and participated in growing that culture.

Jamal Moss has built a sterling reputation both as a producer and live performer of deep, mesmeric experimental electronics and free jazz rooted in his native Chicago and his relationship with the city's fertile underground club scene. Inspired by the likes of Ron Trent, DJ Rush (both residents at The Reactor where he danced week in week out) and Ron Hardy, Moss was mentored by visionary producers Steve Poindexter and Adonis, who showed him the drum machines that were the backbone of the Movement and whom encouraged his early forays into music production.

Releasing prolifically on his own Mathematics Recordings imprint and a clutch of other imprints including RVNG Intl. and Soul Jazz / SOTU; collaborating with Marshall Allen of Sun Ra's Arkestra and many other notable figures – Moss has undoubtedly cemented his stature as a unique creative force.

Moss is also a mentor and founder of Chicago Phonic, a school for electronic music production.
