Central Co-op Announces Partnership with Uli’s Famous Sausage

Today, Central Co-op announced a partnership with Uli’s Famous Sausage, making the cooperative grocer the only place outside of Pike Place Market offering every one of Uli’s varieties. From Cougar Gold Cheddar Bratwurst to Heavy Garlic Chicken and English-style Lamb, Central Co-op will feature more than 40 of Uli’s trademark flavors on its shelves.

Since Central Co-op first opened its doors in 1978, independent Seattle and Washington producers have been a mainstay on the Co-op’s shelves. The partnership of two Seattle community staples serves as another example of Central Co-op’s commitment to growing a stronger, more robust regional food system.

“Uli’s dedication to using high-quality local ingredients made this collaboration an easy decision,” said Central Co-op Meat and Seafood Manager Beth Gilliam. “All of the sausage we receive is made fresh a day before we get it, and the ingredients follow all of our product guidelines.”

German Master Butcher Uli Lengenberg started selling unique artisan sausages in Pike Place Market nearly 18 years ago. Since then, Uli's Famous Sausage has continued hand-crafting all-natural products and supporting small-scale farmers committed to responsible, sustainable stewardship of the planet and humane raising and handling of livestock.

“You do the best that you can do because you want to eat it yourself,” said Lengenberg. “You need a grinder, a stuffer, tables, cooling and spices and then you’re there. Add in a bowl chopper for creating coarse textured varieties and a wood smoker for smoked goods and, that’s all you need to make great product. Keep it simple.”

To celebrate this partnership, Central Co-op will have a sale on a different Uli’s Famous Sausage every week for the rest of the year, with samples in the Meat & Seafood Department every day from 5-7 p.m. Uli Lengenberg will also be participating in some co-op member events throughout the year.
