Just two weeks after completing a Bridgeport Fittings' complimentary CEU course, an electrical contractor was able to use that education to save a substantial amount of time and money on a job he was doing at a hotel site.
An electrical engineer had asked the contractor to remove conduit installed over the hotel's swimming pool, paint it to match the lighting system of the pool area, and then re-install the conduit. Remembering his Bridgeport CEU course, the contractor tried to explain to the engineer that this would be a code violation.
Skeptical, the engineer spoke with the electrical inspector on site who agreed with the engineer. Not taking this as the last word, the electrician asked the inspector to call Bridgeport Fittings to find out what was correct. The technical sales manager at Bridgeport referred the inspector to the UL White Book where it points out that fittings and conduit must be installed as shipped from the factory. Painting violates the UL if done before a system is installed, while painting after installation is acceptable. Needless to say, all agreed the code had to be followed. The happy outcome: by taking the CEU course, a contractor had saved everyone a huge amount of time and money, while educating an engineer and an inspector at the same time - "a win-win situation for all," according to Larry Beach, member of "Team Done That" and certified instructor for Bridgeport's CEU courses for electricians and inspectors.
