Avwatch, Martin Aircraft move forward on plan to market Jetpacks in North America.

PRLog - July 19, 2015 - PLYMOUTH, Mass. & NEW ZEALAND -- Avwatch (www.avwatch.us), a Plymouth, MA business delivering aerial reconnaissance, real-time full motion video and tactical networking services to government and commercial clients, has taken another step forward in expanding airborne technology capabilities, by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with New Zealand based Martin Aircraft (AXJ: MJP) to introduce Jetpacks to the North American market.

The signing of the agreement builds on the strategic relationship developed between Avwatch and Martin Aircraft during the previous 12 months under an existing Letter of Intent between the parties. This next step paves the way for a future delivery of a Martin Aircraft package with 3 manned Jetpacks, 3 unmanned Jetpacks and a simulator.

Chris Kluckhuhn, Chief Executive Officer of Avwatch, said that he anticipates this innovative airborne technology will be used by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, United States Department of Defense, and other federal, state and local agencies.

The two companies will work together on improving and demonstrating specific capabilities targeted at assisting the first responder sector, including search and rescue, security, law enforcement, ambulance, fire and natural disaster recovery through the purchase and supply of Martin Jetpacks and relevant products and services.

Within the next six months Avwatch will introduce and market the Martin Jetpack to the North American market. The Martin Jetpack can be flown by a pilot or via remote control, for Homeland Security or first responder applications. Named as one of Time magazine's Top 50 inventions for 2010, the Martin Jetpack is the world's first practical jetpack, set to revolutionize the industries of aviation, recreation and transportation.

The Martin Jetpack was initially developed in 1981 in response to another jetpack that had a one-minute flight-time limit; the current version can travel at speeds up to 46 mph (74 km/h) and has a flight duration of over 30 minutes. The Jetpack can be used as a first responder vehicle and also as an unmanned aerial vehicle.

Kluckhuhn said “The Martin Jetpack is a disruptive technology, much like the helicopter was when first developed, with substantial capabilities, which will be very complementary to the solutions we offer our customers. This is an exciting partnership that allows Avwatch working with Martin Aircraft Company to offer a unique and capability enhancing solution.”

Commenting on the strategic co-operation framework agreement, Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Martin Aircraft Peter Coker said, “The North American Market presents excellent opportunities for the Martin Jetpack, and working in collaboration with an industry leader such as Avwatch to demonstrate the tactical capabilities of our disruptive technology will be a powerful enabler on our path to commercialization.”

About the Martin Aircraft Company Limited

Martin Aircraft Company Limited (Martin Aircraft) is currently developing the Martin Jetpack, the world’s first practical jetpack, with potential search and rescue, military, recreational and commercial applications, both manned and unmanned. The Martin Jetpack was initially conceived and developed by Glenn Martin in Dunedin in 1981. This led to the founding of Martin Aircraft Company in 1998 and the development of a Jetpack that, based on current testing, is expected to have over 30 minutes flight capability at a speed of up to 74 km/h and an altitude up to 1,000 m (3000ft).

The Martin Jetpack is a disruptive technology, much like the helicopter was when first developed, with significant capabilities and is able to be flown either by a pilot or via remote control. The Jetpack can take off and land vertically (VTOL) and because of its small dimensions, it can operate in confined spaces (such as close to or in between buildings), near trees or in confined areas that other VTOL aircraft such as helicopters cannot access.
