Item 5.02.		Departure of Directors or Certain Officers; Election of Directors; Appointment of Certain Officers; Compensatory Arrangements of Certain Officers.

     (b) On August 11, 2010, Palmer L. Moe retired as a director of Whiting Petroleum Corporation (the “Company”).

     (d) On August 11, 2010, the Board of Directors of the Company appointed Philip E. Doty as a director of the Company to serve for a term expiring at the Company’s 2011 annual meeting of stockholders. The Board of Directors of the Company also appointed Mr. Doty to serve on the Audit and Nominating and Governance Committees of the Board of Directors.

A copy of the Company’s press release announcing Mr. Doty’s appointment and Mr. Moe’s retirement, issued by the Company on August 11, 2010, is filed as Exhibit 99.1 and is incorporated by reference herein.
