Glencairn suspends mining at Limon due to illegal blockade

Glencairn Gold Corporation reports that operations at its Limon Mine in Nicaragua have been temporarily suspended due to another illegal blockade on the road between the mine and the mill site.

The blockade has been set up by a group of an estimated 17 current and former employees who are demanding that the company rehire a number of former employees who were terminated in December, 2005. The termination of these employees has been upheld by the Nicaraguan government and their severance has been paid.

Those blocking the road are members of the same union that blockaded the road in November, 2005. This group was among the signatories of an unconditional agreement in November that future disputes be resolved according to the resolution mechanisms in the collective agreement between the Company and its unions. Glencairn has appealed to various branches of the government of Nicaragua for help in finding a resolution to this situation.
